However, there’s only one place in North Carolina that combines all these activities in one family-friendly package. Crowders Mountain has something for everyone, so take a look at your wealth of options today.

Crowders Mountain Trails

Crowders Mountain State Park actually offers two peaks in one park: Crowders Mountain and the Pinnacle. Eleven trails throughout the park provide options for families and hardcore adventurers alike, so be sure to bring the Crowders Mountain trail map with you. The Ridgeline Trail connects Kings Mountain National Military Park and Kings Mountain State Park, and the Family Camping Trail supplies access to the family backpack camping area at the end of a 1 mile, natural surface trail. The Pinnacle Trail starts at the Sparrow Springs access point and finishes at the top of King’s Pinnacle, providing clear views of the surrounding area.

Crowders Mountain Activities

While hiking is a popular option in Crowders Mountain, that’s not all there is to do:

  • Fishing: A seven-acre manmade lake houses largemouth bass and sunfish. A North Carolina fishing license is required, and anglers can cast off from shore or in a kayak or personal canoe.
  • Rock Climbing: The climbing at Crowders Mountain is for experienced climbers, and bolts or pitons are not allowed. Check with the park office to find designated climbing areas.
  • Picknicking: A great summertime destination, you can choose between the Linwood Access Area or Boulders Access Area for picnic tables. For larger gatherings, two large shelters are available for reservations.
