Toyota Opens Its Hydrogen Fuel Cell Patents to the Industry

January 12th, 2015 by

There’s nothing that says you’re in the business of making the world a better place, rather than the one of just making money, like sharing valuable information with your competitors.

That’s exactly what Toyota did when it opened thousands of hydrogen fuel cell patents, royalty free, at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show.

To be clear this is the same FCV technology that they only recently unveiled at NAIA 2014…

The patents cover critical technologies developed for the new Toyota Mirai, including patents related to fuel cell stacks, high-pressure hydrogen tanks, fuel cell system software control, and hydrogen production and supply.

They’ll be made available to automakers who produce and sell fuel cell vehicles, fuel cell parts suppliers and energy companies who establish and operate fueling stations, and even companies working to develop and introduce fuel cell busses and industrial equipment.

At Toyota of Gastonia, we’re proud to represent a company that believes in sharing good ideas. Sharing the patents will help hydrogen fuel cell technology pick up more quickly and make the world a cleaner, safer place for our children to live in!
